Take for examples a fiber has a diameter of 125-micron meter (thinner than most hair), Single mode fiber has inner core of 9-micron meter and tolerance of less than 1-micron meter. The core of the fiber must be right in the middle of the fiber. The ferrule must be able to hold fiber in the center of the ferrule so that light can pass from 1 cable to another with less than 0.3dB light loss. The termination polishing must be done just right with surface radius of curvature, fiber offset and concentricity to get low transmission loss. Angle Ferrule must be polished at 8 degree to mate to another ferrule polished at that angle. In order to archive the precision, OCE has invested high technology, high precision equipment to produce the products in every departments. Optical Fiber Department Optic fiber is drawn by fiber drawing tower from preform. Preform surface has to be in cleanest condition to be drawn to fiber. This is because a 45 to 100mm diameter preform is drawn to 125 micron meter fiber. Any minute particles on the surface of preform can become a problem for the fiber. So before the fiber is drawn, every square inches of the preform is flame polished to remove foreign particles and impurities that may be attached to the surface of the preform. Then the tip of the preform is warmed up to 2000-2200°C to produce fiber. The capstan has to ensure that constant pull is applied in order to keep the diameter of core and cladding constant and hence pass the ITU-T geometric specification. Usually, fiber are coated to 250 micron meter by UV cured acrylate material. These cable lines are chosen for their high material extrusion accuracy. They are also easily to operate and maintain. These factors bring lower production cost for the cable product. OCE also has stranding line to strand maximum 24 simplex to breakout cable or 24 loose tubes to high fiber count cable. Stranded cable can be PVC or PE jacketed depend on the application. The cable can be further armoured for direct burial. OCE terminates optic cable with any of above connectors. The cable termination department has production facilities including 8 SEIKO mass polishing machine (Each process produces 16 pieces of termination) and 2 SANKYO mass polishing machines. OCE produces pigtails and patchcords with highest International Standard required by telecommunication companies in Japan, United State of America, United Kingdom, Germany, India, ASEAN countries and Australia. To take volume order, OCE has 10 ferrule heater and 1 GZ-ESPEC oven to harden epoxy in ferrule under controlled environment.
